MEL

Mel has a wealth of hands-on experience caring for dogs and cats, including those with complex medical needs. One of her beloved Red Labrador Retrievers, Poppy, developed epilepsy caused by a brain tumour, meaning Mel became highly experienced in administering daily medication and providing emergency care during seizures. Earlier in Poppy’s life, she also recovered from a shattered leg that required extensive surgery and metalwork. Thanks to Mel’s devoted care, Poppy lived to the wonderful age of 13.

Her first Labrador, Wallace, had dermatitis, so Mel is also experienced in managing long-term skin conditions, including regular medicated bathing. Today, she cares for her remarkable 19-year-old cat, Roxy, who has nasal polyps requiring frequent ear drops, and she currently shares her home with Jasper, a lively five-year-old Red Fox Labrador.

Alongside caring for her own pets, Mel regularly looks after friends’ dogs and has many years of practical experience with dogs of different breeds, personalities and care requirements. Her calm, patient approach and confidence with administering medication help ensure every pet feels safe, comfortable and well cared for.
